Historical Overview of the Arab Architects Organization

 

The idea of establishing an organization of Arab architects originated in Brighton in 1987 during the World Conference of Architects.

This idea was renewed in 1990, when the Arab architects met, formed the Union of Arab Architects and elected the Architect Majed Khoulousi from Egypt as Secretary-General of the Union. During his meeting in Morocco in 1991, the Architect Khoulousi requested from the Federation of Arab Engineers to create an Organization of Arab Architects within the Federation and he was also responsible for preparing the Organization Statute. He presented the Statute during the meeting of the Federation of Arab Engineers held in Beirut, on June 14th, 1993. Note that Dr. Ghassan Tayara from Syria was tasked with reviewing it.

The Statute was approved during the meeting in Cairo on March 13th, 1994 and after this, the elections of the Executive Committee and the President of the Organization took place in Jordan during the meeting of the Federation of Arab Engineers, where the Executive Committee members were elected as follows.

They also appointed supervisors for the Organization during the meeting in Beirut on November 23rd, 1994 as follows:

Architect Majed Khoulousi from (Egypt), Architect Salama Houchaymi, Fahed Tawk and Jihad Al Rumuz from (Lebanon).

 

Lebanon permanent headquarters of the Arab Architects

 

On September 27th, 1994 a meeting was held for the General assembly of Organization of the Arab Architects in Amman and they elected the Executive Committee members as mentioned above and appointed the Architect Ali Al Mayloudi Ammoura as a delegate of the General Union of Engineering Professions in the Libyan Arab Republic.

At the same meeting, Lebanon has been selected as the headquarters of the Organization of Arab Architects, this decision entails the establishment of the Headquarters of the Organization, hiring an employee to follow up on work and archives, and providing the necessary materials for this task. It was also decided that Lebanon, being the headquarters, is responsible for issuing the Arab Architect Bulletin and magazine linking the architects in all of the Arab countries and representing the Arab Architects as the Organization of Arab Architects.

 

Architect Assem Salam

 

The Architect Assem Salam was elected President of the Organization of Arab Architects in the General Meeting which was held in Beirut, on 23/06/1998, and they also elected the members of the Executive Committee as follows.

The Architect Dr. Saad Khaled was elected during the meeting of the General Assembly held in Beirut on 11/11/2001 and they also elected the members of the Executive Committee as follows.

The Architect Dr. Antoine Charbel was elected President of the Organization of Arab Architects during the General Assembly meeting held in Beirut on 22/1/2015, and they also elected the members of the Executive Committee for the seventh session as follows.

Historical Overview of the Arab Architects Organization
